This book "Unlocking Desire" is an excellent read and a fantastic guide to motivate anyone wanting to learn, understand or solidify their commitment and walk with the Son of God Christ Jesus. The words just come alive, revealing the ease and honest spirit of the writer Tena. I would recommend this book to not just young hip hype believers but every person wanting answers to some of the very same questions or issues to set their path straight in following Christ. Unlocking Desire is an unbiased, straight-forward, easy read, manual/guide to a deeper understanding of the things related to one's decision to become a Christ-follower. In simple language topics like TFOTS (the fruits of the Spirit) is explained, so that anyone of whatever conviction, age or class can understand and relate to it. I consumed Unlocking Desire a chapter or few pages daily to allow for meditation and soul-searching. It provides clarity to much of my daily experiences and is a perfect addition to my motivational collection. Thanks Tena!
Unlocking desire is the devotional you didn’t realize you needed! It gives you the opportunity to maintain or start a relationship with God; it allows you to make notations where you deem fit. The different play on words and the connection to everyday words and phrases made it easily understandable and relatable. One of the chapters that stood out to me was the phrase “EAT YOUR FRUITS” implying that not only should we eat healthy, but also in the bible the holy spirit’s attributes are love, kindness, patience, etc., which indicated that we should aspire to be these things as it is pleasing to God. It challenges us to answer questions after each chapter, allowing us to really interact with the book.
The book reaffirmed something I think many Christians forget that our relationship with God shouldn’t be out of fear but reverence. How many of us even thank God for his friendship or even tell him we love him when we pray. Sure we say it but do we truly mean it. We pray asking for things like a spoil child feeling entitled. The book also reaffirmed the power we have as God’s children. It reminded me of a quote by Myron Golden “As we yield to God’s sovereignty, our tasks yield to us, offering provision. God’s authority ensures our safety.” Our duty it to honor and Obey God. It’s funny how we apply Ephesians 6:1 to our Eartly parents but now to our Heavenly Father. I would recommend the book to anyone especially someone who has just started their relationship with Christ.
